Plain Vanilla, or Chocolate Truffle?

Written by Seamus Warakomski

I started implementing systems and processes to leverage myself in my business over 15 years ago. Don’t get me wrong I always had some systems in place. The systems I had were essentials. It’s kind of like the essentials you need to do an everyday chore. For instance let’s take cutting the grass as an example.  Your system may be that you have a lawnmower, you plan to cut the grass while its still light and you go in a certain pattern, maybe back and forth or at a diagonal. Seems to work, right? It also seems very vanilla. Plain and boring. Looks like every other lawn in the city. There’s no reason anybody would take notice if they were driving or strolling by. Why should they? We all know of at least one meticulously manicured lawn. Stands out above the rest. You can only imagine having a lawn like that, or can you have one just like it or better. Of course you can, however that would take a different system or process. That would take a little more creativity or this thing called WORK! So I ask you which business is yours? Are you a chocolate truffle entrepreneur or a plain vanilla business owner with a job?

Where Will You Be in 2010

Yesterday I went to lunch with a fellow entrepreneur, Jared James of www.jaredjamestoday.com fame, and we were discussing the studies involving some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world to see what makes them successful.

What makes them tick?

What are their strongest character traits or habits?

You might think it was education, organization or even work ethic.

No, it’s speed of implementation.

We all know the things we need to do, and if we took a little time we could probably create systems that would work in most businesses. The most silly thing about that is, we don’t even have to create them, they’re for the taking, they’re already out there.

So why is it we settle for mediocrity????

Have you ever heard of the book “The Secret”? A great speaker Jeffrey Gitomer once told me to use it to start my fire. THERES NO SECRET! Check out www.gitomer.com for more great info.

  • Try working hard!
  • Dedicate some time to your business and think about its systems!
  • Make a list of all the systems you have!
  • Make a list of all the systems you need!
  • Start implementing TODAY!

Make it easy, list the system you need, next to it list an action plan that you will implement to get that system functioning and put a timeline next to it.

Be sure to follow up to make sure the system is being used by all employees. Come up with 100 systems for your company and you will work your way right out of a job.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be sitting on an island somewhere sipping a frozen drink out of a coconut a year from now?

ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE
